Sports Library, SAI Head Office
Mission: To develop a vibrant, attractive resource centre for fulfilling various information needs on sports of employees/ coaches/ trainees/ research scholars at Head Office and also complete dissemination of physical and eResources to all interested library users in the least possibletime.
The Sports library was established in 1984 under Sports Authority of India, MYAS, GOI with the main objective to provide reading material on various sports disciplines. It was inaugurated by Hon’ble Rajiv Gandhi. Since then it has grown in size and resources to satisfy the need of its users. The Library being specialized one, falls in the category of Special/ technical library. The books in the library covers Sports as a main subject which includes: Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Chess, Cycling, Cricket, Football, Gymnastics, Golf, Hockey, Handball, Judo, Lawn Tennis, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Olympic & Asian games etc. In addition to the major disciplines the Library also maintains well equipped sections on the Allied subjects such as: Biomechanics, Sports Medicine, Injuries, Physiology, Anthropometry, Kinesiology, Sports Psychology, Sports Nutrition, Sports Education Physical Fitness, Physical Education, Yoga, technical specifications and rules related to games etc.
The Library is having a collection of more than 15, 000 documents, subscribing various print/ online journals and magazines on sports. The Library procures latest best-selected sports literature both in English and Hindi every year through library purchase committee. The library also organizes book exhibitions on various themes of sports and allied subjects to extend an opportunity to SAI Employees, Coaches, Trainees, Junior Research Fellows (JRFs) to recommend the books for library on their field interest and to update their knowledge and enjoy the variety of Literature at a single platform.
The library is equipped with modern information technology tools for retrieval and dissemination of information. The Library routine services have been fully automated using the library database management software 'KOHA'. Research Scholars from various institutions visited the library for a variety of information required by them from time to time. The library is open to all SAI officials, bonafide research scholars, university students and all genuine readers who have real need of information on sports.
